History

In 1969, an independent agent in Indianapolis had a better idea for selling commercial insurance. He envisioned the localization of mass marketing efforts by a group of independent insurance agencies, a group devoted to working together to better serve the consumer and each other.

By 1970, Wayne W. Hoffman had assembled a select group of independent agencies to develop and market insurance programs in Indiana.  That was the genesis of Associated Risk Managers.  In the years that followed, ARM developed new chapters and hand-selected member agencies throughout the country.  As new state member groups formed, benefits blossomed as ARM members began sharing and practicing ideas and innovations developed within the network.

In the early 1980’s, ARM of Oklahoma was formed with the insight of three agency owners John Sullivan, Dick Bushaw and John Rogers.  The organization struggled to grow until 1991, when they brought in Janet Rogers who served as state executive for over the next 20 years.  ARM of Oklahoma not only thrived under her leadership but also extended assistance to other struggling states in the Midwest region.  In 1996, ARM of Oklahoma transitioned into ARM of Mid-America and consists today of independent agencies in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.  Janet Rogers passed away on April 4, 2017, and was honored posthumously with the 2016 Weaver Memorial Award in recognition of her significant contribution to ARM.

In 1999, ARM solidified our position of leadership by partnering with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. to increase market opportunities.  Today, we maintain that leadership by consistently seeking innovative solutions and exclusive products for our shareholder members.

For over 40 years, ARM has worked with independent insurance agencies to ensure their success with a variety of programs, partnerships, and products.  As a result, Associated Risk Managers has grown into a leading insurance agency association by providing our members with greater access to markets, networking opportunities, tools for business development, and much more.
